Top Spa Trends for 2019

Each year brings with it exciting new innovations in health, beauty and wellness, here are a few trends that we see on the horizon for 2019…

J-beauty
Over the past few years, the limelight has firmly been on Korean beauty (K-beauty), which has opened up a new way of thinking about skincare. Essentially, K-beauty is all about working towards having naturally clear and radiant skin, rather than covering up flaws with make-up (think complex 10-step beauty routines). 2019 looks set to be the year when Japanese beauty (J-beauty) comes into its own. As opposed to K-beauty’s complexity, J-beauty is all about minimalism. Expect to hear more about the Japanese principles of simplicity, understated beauty and energised calm.

Gua Sha
Gua sha is an ancient Chinese practice that involves applying pressure to your skin with a flat massage tool. Particularly used for facials in the West, it can help to stimulate lymph nodes and also boost microcirculation of soft tissue. As gua sha can help to keep skin clear and youthful looking, this traditional Chinese technique is steadily growing in popularity and looks set to hit UK shores in 2019.

HydraFacials
Praised to be the new microdermabrasion, HydraFacial blasts dead skin cells away by using a special serum followed by both glycolic and salicylic acids. HydraFacials can now reach places that were normally avoided by the diamond-tipped microdermabrasion wand, such as lips and eyes. The result is a lighter, smoother, more youthful complexion.

Cilantro oil
In simple terms, this is coriander. Over the past year or so, this humble herb has been gaining momentum as a natural skincare solution. That’s because cilantro has many benefits and can be used as an exfoliator, blackhead remover, acne buster and natural face lifter. One key reason for its magic is its vitamin C, another buzz beauty ingredient of the moment. Coriander, we had no idea you were such a whizz.

If this has put you in the mood to relax our spa teams pride themselves on offering both classic and cutting-edge therapies to guests.
