I am sure you will all agree that the exceptional Autumnal sunshine has helped to lift our spirits amongst the economic doom and gloom greeting us in the news of late. The weather also provided the ‘icing on the cake’ for our Meeting Buyers’ Showcase this weekend, helping to display Ashdown Park at its very best, with a range of activities to enjoy in our 184 acres.
During Dinner, two fortunate guests won the opportunity to take a Balloon flight on Sunday morning. Rising early to wave them off, I was provided with the ultimate surprise myself; a spare place. Forty minutes later after assisting the Crew to prepare the 100ft high Balloon, we were airborne and floating over the Ashdown Forest. What a truly amazing experience, with the mist in the valleys and the sun slowly breaking through, the views were simply stunning. Except for the occasional roar from the Stags wondering in the woodland below, I was also struck by the combination of calmness and tranquillity. The whole magical adventure was one I shall treasure for years to come and highly recommend.
Landing close to High Hurstwood was equally memorable when the Farmer whose field we had landed in was less than welcoming insisting that we move on. So off we took for a further mile or so before our second landing which too was eventful; requiring a helping hand over a hedge, then assisting with deflating the Balloon before a ride back to Ashdown Park and a welcome breakfast. Special thanks to the crew from www.airborneballoons.co.uk who provided such a memorable start to Sunday. My only regret was leaving my camera at home. Thankfully, others had theirs to hand. If you ever get the opportunity take such a ride, don’t hesitate to seize it.
